With both sides struggling for points, today’s game was always going to be close.
On a really heavy pitch, Heath Hill started the most determined of the two sides and had most of the early play. It came as no surprise when the ever dangerous Walker got on the end of a fine run and through ball from J.MacDonald to open the scoring.
Tonks was looking good in goal for the first time and the midfield trio of Dixon, Tassa and the returning Oldfield forced the play. While Ugiagbe and Grant on his debut looked ever dangerous down the flanks.
However midway through the half Heath Hill had a good opportunity to play the ball forward and got caught in possession and all of a sudden it was 1-1.
Heath Hill continued to dominate and had a lot of corners before the break, but they could not add to the score line.
The second half started with Tassa picking up a heavy knock to his knee and a loss of vision for Walker as he lost his contact lens. Walker played on and he could have scored several times early on in the half, as he first rounded the keeper before losing his footing and then he was denied by a fine save from the Ashfield keeper.
With Tassa and Walker struggling throughout the half and no substitutes, Heath Hill did well to continue to dominate. A succession of corners were squandered and with 3 minutes left on the clock the unthinkable happened.
With Heath Hill in possession on the half way line the left back took his eye off a pass and the ball skidded under his foot, the Ashfield winger picked up the ball and ran away from the defence and slotted past the helpless Tonks.
To Heath Hills credit, they were the best team on the day and it was only the lack of players on the bench which stopped them gaining their first league victory of the season.
