On a day when the manager was again forced into making many changes to the starting line up, due to player unavailability, the team put in their best performance of the season. Hodson and Mudie made their first starts of the season and Debaes and Groves their debuts.
Heath Hill started well and they were rewarded when Debaes got on the end of some head tennis play to open the scoring. Stevenson nearly made it two soon after, but he was denied by a fine save from the Kimberley keeper.
Against the run of play Kimberley equalised, a great strike flying into the top corner.
As in recent weeks Heath Hill fell apart, within 5 minutes it was 3-1 to Kimberley.
Chances came for Heath Hill to pull it back. Mudie got up well to head over from a couple of corners and some last ditch tackles kept them out.
Kimberley added a 4th before Half time when a cross hit their attackers standing foot and tricked into the corner of the net. At Half time it was 4-1 to the opposition but Heath Hill knew they were unlucky to be losing
After the break Heath Hill pushed on and started to dominate .Davey made it 4-2 after Mudie appeared to foul the Kimberley keeper. Then shortly after Debaes added his second after fine play by Mudie.
Heath Hill continued to press on with excellent link up play between the midfield and attack. Hodson ran his socks off despite playing with an injury and so did Stevenson and Debaes. Groves was causing problems down the right and Tonks and Mudie controlled the centre.
All was set for a thrilling finale, then Kimberley struck the sucker punch. A long ball was misjudged at the back and the Kimberley striker ran on to score and kill the game.
The players can take great heart today, from the fact that they were equal to the opposition, they played as a team and worked hard for each other.
With fighting spirit like this we will soon be rewarded. Poor attitude from the guys who didn’t show up today tho!
