In a thrilling game, Vernon Villa finally ran out 2-1 winners, However the game was not without controversy as the home side look over their shoulder after fielding a familiar face.
The game saw Heath Hill starting well after their poor start to the season, Ugiagbe nearly scored early on with a fine shot which narrowly missed the far post, then the returning Dunk nearly scored with another fine strike. As the half progressed both sides had chances to score. Vernon saw MacDonald in the Heath Hill goal make a fine double save and also saw their striker miss a glorious chance when he put wide of the post from a cross from their left.
Heath Hill’s team looked more balanced than in previous games and it was no more than they deserved when J.Hodson made a fine run into the box before making a cool finish down to the keepers left after a quality pass from Parry.
After the introduction of their super sub Vernon looked a better team but at the break Heath Hill still had the upper hand.
The second half saw Heath Hill defence under more pressure from Vernon and some good defensive work from Marnell Tonks, Davey and Jones was needed. A shot from the edge of the box was well saved by MacDonalds right boot and Heath Hill worked hard to defend their lead.
Vernon finally levelled after their striker latched on to a loose ball from a cross and rifled high to the keepers right.
At this point the game could have gone either way, both sides needed a win and went for it. Vernon grabbed all 3 points after a tussle in the box saw the Heath Hill keeper appear to be bundled to the floor as he came for a cross, The ball fell to the strikers team mate, who made no mistake from close range.
A much improved performance from Heath Hill, nice to see Nathan back and the new guys settling in well. Thanks to Steve for coming down last minute and to all the guys for their efforts so far this season.
